National strike action
The CWU has formally notified Royal Mail that they plan to call on their members who collect, sort and deliver parcels and letters to take national strike action on Friday 9, Sunday 11, Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 December 2022. The CWU recently announced their intention to strike on 23 and 24 December 2022, but they have not formally notified the Royal Mail that strikes will take place on these dates.
The Royal Mail have well-developed contingency and recovery plans as well as additional resources to support their customers in the run up to Christmas, but they cannot fully replace the daily efforts of our frontline workforce. They’ll be doing what they can to keep services running, but strike action is likely to cause some disruption.

Parcel and Letter Deliveries
On days when strike action is taking place:
- The Royal Mail will deliver as many Special Delivery Guaranteed parcels as possible. We will prioritise and deliver as many Special Delivery Guaranteed items as resources allow. We cannot however guarantee delivery by 9am or 1pm next day, so we’re making changes to our delivery guarantee for items posted from Wednesday 23 November up to and including items sent on Saturday 3 December 2022 and items posted from Thursday 8 December 2022 until further notice. Customers will not be able to claim for delays to items during this period.
- The Royal Mail deliver as many Tracked 24 parcels as possible including prioritising delivery of Covid-19 test kits and medical prescription items wherever possible.
- On strike days, the Royal Mail is not delivering letters (with exception of Special Delivery).
